How Does it Work?
BrickPlay is a pop-up LEGO® Building Studio
This is not your typical LEGO® club setup!
While we do love to gather around a big bulk of LEGO® in the middle (and we do that sometimes, too!), our studio offers so much more. We create a unique experience that develops cognitive skills, collaboration, and builds deep knowledge of the LEGO® system. The experience is designed for children 4-10 (they can stay unaccompanied with a sibling/friend from age 8).
Our sessions encourages systematic creativity, blending 🎨 artistic and ⚙️design thinking principles. We model and foster 🧠 metacognition—the ability to reflect on one’s thinking process—while providing strategies for managing frustration. This helps children develop 💪 resilience as they overcome challenges through play. By sharing a creative space and facing collaborative challenges, children learn the principles of 🤝 working as part of a team.
Our BrickPlay Studio Includes:
-
🧱 Huge Collection of LEGO® Elements: We have a large but curated selection of LEGO® pieces, sorted by function, not color. This allows young builders to better understand the LEGO® system as they create.
-
🏳️🌈 Something for Everyone: We understand that children build in different ways, so our studio is inclusive accommodates personal building styles, while also challenging them to explore new building techniques and ideas.
-
🦸♂️Loads of Minifigures, Accessories, and Animals: Our studio offers endless opportunities for imaginative small world play and storytelling.
-
📐 Building with Instructions: We have a great selection of LEGO® sets with instructions in our dedicated area. Here, we highlight interesting design features and explain how these techniques relate to the pieces we have in the studio.
-
🟡 LEGO® Dots and mosaic-building: where kids can create detailed patterns and work on important design concepts like symmetry and repetition.
-
📚LEGO® Library: A selection of books to allows children to independently explore ideas, experiment with techniques, and find inspiration. (We often find that many parents leave having learned new things too!)
Here’s what happens at a typical BrickPlay session:
🚪Welcome and Exploration
Upon arrival, children are invited to explore the BrickPlay Studio, discovering where all the exciting elements are! We’ll review simple guidelines to ensure respect for the space and for everyone’s creations.
🎯 Creative Challenge & Workshop
The fun kicks off with a quick building challenge designed to teach a clever LEGO® technique—whether it’s adding movement to a model or making structures super strong! This challenge sets the stage for even more creativity.
🛠️ Free Building Time
Now the real adventure begins! Kids can follow the session’s theme (like building a spooky Halloween amusement park 🎃👻) or let their imaginations run wild. Our Play Leaders provide one-on-one guidance, encouraging children to try new techniques while staying in their creative flow. As time winds down, we give a few reminders (⏱️ 10, 5, and 1 minute) to help everyone wrap up their masterpieces. For kids who enjoy more structure, we have LEGO® sets with instructions ready to go!
🏆 Showtime: Sharing and Celebrating
It’s time to show off those incredible builds! Kids and parents are encouraged to visit each other’s displays and appreciate the problem-solving in action. BrickPlay Leaders might spotlight a particularly inventive build and ask the creator to explain their thinking—if they’re comfortable! We celebrate the creative journey, not just the final model. Every creation is photographed and shared on our social media, giving kids an extra boost of pride.
🎁 Pick-a-Brick & Surprise Time
To top it all off, each child gets to pick 10 unique elements from our special pick-a-brick shop to take home, plus a 🎉 fun surprise as a memento of their time with us.
🏠 Home Time
As the session comes to a close, we ask parents to help us clear the space quickly so we can prep for the next group of builders.
❗🧩 Missing a LEGO® Piece? We Can Help!
Bring the number of the piece you need -you can find it at the back of the set’s instruction booklet-, and we’ll help you find it from our collection. If we don’t have it on hand, we can source it and bring it to our next event—so you never have to leave a set incomplete!
