Ready to drop upon me … (The Tempest)

Shakespeare’s magical play will be at the heart of a directing masterclass, the first element of this, the second Radius Festival, Hints and Revelations. The masterclass will be run by actors Emerald O’Hanrahan and Martin Delaney.

Emerald trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and won the prestigious Carleton Hobbs Radio Drama Award. She may now be heard as Emma Grundy in The Archers on BBC Radio 4. Martin is an award-winning actor, writer and producer who appeared as Sergeant Towser in George Clooney’s mini-series Catch 22. He has also worked with Clint Eastwood and Kathryn Bigelow.

Hints and Revelations takes its title in part from Rex Walford’s dramatization of John Betjeman’s poetry, A Hint of the Unknown God. This will take place after lunch and will present some of Betjeman’s best-loved poems. These explore his fascination with matters religious, both with the human spirit – its hopes, fears and solaces – and with the Church as an institution. It is to be produced and directed by Tricia Peroni and Wendy Walford, both stalwarts of the first Radius Festival in 2022.

Hints and Revelations concludes with a Q and A session and a panel of drama practitioners will field questions raised by the day’s programme, and by religious drama in general.

Radius explores faith, belief, social, ethical questions and what it is to be human, through drama.
