The Champion of the Thames Pub

The Champion of the Thames, aka The Champ, is a traditional old boozer in the heart of Cambridge, frequented by students (most notably on quiz nights), locals (most notably every other night but quiz night), and by visitors to the city, who are more than likely being toured around King Street by the locals who know where all the city's best kept, off-the-beaten-track, secret gems are, and that's how YOU will more than likely find your way to us. You could also just google it or ask your friendly BID / Visit Cambridge Ambassador usually based around Market Square!

The Champ prides itself on serving the BEST ale in the city and we can of course back this up with our latest award from CAMRA who recently listed us Pub of the Year 2024 in both City and District. We were also proudly shortlisted in Velvet* Magazine’s 2024 Food & Drink Awards, and we just found out our little unique What3Words square at the entrance to our pub on King Street is bossy.undulation.limes! That about sums us up really!

We think that excellent, friendly service is really important, so that’s what you’ll get.

You might also be treated to a good old-fashioned sing-song if Jonny is about, or Robin and crew drop in over the weekend. We take no responsibility for the quality of music, and the high stools might be taken, but we can guarantee the fun!

We have been recognised by Greene King as Pub of the Year for several years.

We are Consistently listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, most recently – CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2024, Winner of CAMRA Pub of the Year 2024 Cambridge City and District and Cambridgeshire, and most importantly perhaps, we can boast a regulars table. We think it’s pretty great that people return!
